Summer Lingerments
Lingerments that have brought me comfort this last month: A man is walking out of the grocery store holding a single bouquet of flowers as his only purchase. After classes I walk the same route to a little nature area that provides me with great peace every time I get there. While walking through this area, I smile at a dad and a little girl, and as the little girl bounds ahead of him I notice the dad is carrying a wooden picnic basket with snacks and blankets in it. An older woman sitting in the local coffee shop slams her cup down and shouts “that was DELICIOUS!” A little boy stands at the edge of Lake Superior at sunset taking selfies. While I’m studying I see a lovely moon outside my window and bound down the stairs to view it in person. In anatomy lecture, we realize a lot of us sitting near each other are drinking the same brand of sparkling water, and we all “cheers” each other before the quiz begins. I ask “what’s your dog’s name?!” every time...
